Stand together on national issues: Speaker tells parties

KATHMANDU: Speaker Onsari Gharti has said political parties should find consensus on national issues. Talking to mediapersons at the Tribhuvan International Airport on Saturday upon her return from a week-long visit to the Russian Federation, she said, 'The topic of Constitution amendment is being discussed now. The political parties should stand together on the forthcoming national issues as well in the same way they issued the Constitution together.' Speaker Gharti said the parties should stand together at the time of reaching a conclusion on issues of national concerns though they should hold discussions and debates based on their respective ideologies. She stated the discussions on the impeachment motion against the Chief (now suspended) of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), Lok Man Singh Karki, underway in the Parliament would conclude soon and the proposal would be sent to the Impeachment Recommendation Committee. A delegation of the Legislature-Parliament led by Speaker Gharti had left for the Russian Federation on November 19, at the invitation of the Chairperson of the Upper House of the Russian Parliament, Valentina Matviyanko, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and the Russian Federation. In course of her visit in Russia, Speaker Gharti had held formal talks with the chairperson of the Upper House and the Deputy Speaker of the Lower House of the Russian Parliament. On both occasions, discussions were held on the political and economic ties between the two countries as well as the need of expanding the economic and trade relations in the coming days, Speaker Gharti said. The Speaker was accompanied in the visit by some MPs and the Secretary-General of the Parliament Secretariat, Manohar Prasad Bhattarai.
