Two arrested for swindling foreign job aspirants of Rs 1.33 mln

KATHMANDU: The Metropolitan Crime Division of Nepal Police arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in swindling various foreign job aspirants of Rs 1.33 million in the pretext of sending them for lucrative jobs abroad. The MCD, issuing a statement today, said 28-year-old Binod Tamang of Gyalang-4 in Rasuwa district and 50-year-old Madan Lama of Nibuwatar-5 in Makawanpur district were arrested from assorted locations of Kathmandu Valley on Tuesday. The accused Tamang had assured Chole Gahle of Tamling in Dhading district of his associations with agents and promised of sending him to Cyprus and his wife to Turkmenistan. He had received Rs 1.03 million from the couple for the job. However, Tamang went out of contact after collecting the sum, reads the MCD statement. In another similar incident, Madan Lama identified himself as a representative of various manpower agencies in Kathmandu and promised Lava Rai and Kamal Ghimire lucrative jobs as security guards in Dubai before collecting Rs 300,000 from the duo. Lama had sent the duo along with the agent Chhatra Ghatani in the gulf city. They were stranded in Dubai and finally forced to return home empty-handed. The MCD had swung into action after Rai and Ghimire had filed a complaint with them. Meanwhile, police have sent the duo to the Department of Foreign Employment in Buddhanagar for further investigation and action today. Police said Chhatra Ghatani had also been arrested and would face a trafficking charge.
