Sunkoshi River jeep plunge death toll reaches 7

SINDHULI: The death toll in the jeep plunge into the Sunkoshi River in Ratnawati-3 of Sindhuli district in central Nepal on Sunday has reached seven. Police said total nine persons were aboard the jeep. One of the passengers is missing whereas the other was rescued in very critical condition. The jeep had fallen around 200 metres down the road. Meanwhile, police identified six of the victims. Sang Dorje Sherpa (50), Bale Sherpa (57), Nibuti Sherpa (50) and Sarkini Sherpa (50) from Phulpingkatti-6 of Sindhupalchok; Jhapat Bahadur Gurung (around 40) from Sanibhanjyang from Lamjung and Tukuli Sherpa (60) from Goldhunga of Kathmandu died in the accident, according to police. A male victim is yet to be identified. Likewise, Dalmu Sherpa (50) from Phulpingkatti-6 is critically injured whereas Danurba Sherpa (45) from the same place is missing. The Scorpio (Ba 12 Cha 8897) was heading towards Halesi of Khotang from the Capital when it fell off the Mid-Hill Highway and plunged into the mighty river in Ghatpakha, Ratnawati-3. Chief of the the District Police Office, SP Uma Shankar Panjiyar, said police were yet to ascertain how many people were aboard the ill-fated vehicle. Meanwhile, rescue efforts are underway and police have sent an additional troop to the incident site. Other details are awaited.
