Rajbiraj, December 27 Dinesh Shrestha of Tribhuvan Army Club shattered the national record with a lift of 268kg on his way to winning gold medal in weightlifting championship under the seventh National Games here today. Competing in the men’s 94kg section, Shrestha lifted 118kg in snatch and 150kg in clean and jerk to better his own previous record of 264kg. Shree Krishna Maharjan of Nepal Police Club won silver with a lift of 215kg, while Ujjwal Kumar Jha of Central Region bagged bronze with 175kg. In women’s section, Rajya Laxmi Thapa of Nepal Police Club won the 69kg section gold medal with a lift 136kg. Usha Khadka of Tribhuvan Army Club came second with a lift of 125kg, while Januka Budha of NPC was third with 112kg. In the women’s 75kg weight category, Shanti Chaudhary of Eastern Region claimed the gold medal after she lifted 135 kilograms, while TAC’s Manu Kumari Ban came second with a lift of 126kg and Laxmi Ban of NPC bagged bronze with 123kg. Out of the 15 weight categories included in the Games, 12 gold medals have already been decided and the remaining three events will be played on Wednesday.
