Education should be accessible to all: PM

Kathmandu, December 29 Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ said it was high time Tribhuvan University focused on developing competent human resource through quality education. Addressing the 42nd convocation of TU held in Lalitpur today, PM Dahal said it was imperative for TU to ensure that its graduates be more competitive and competent in the global arena. “The educated human resource should be skilled and technologically sound,” he said, adding that TU must lay emphasis on professional subjects. PM Dahal, who is the Chancellor of TU, said education should be accessible and employment-intensive. On the occasion, Education Minister and TU Pro-Chancellor Dhaniram Paudel said TU, which produced over 80 per cent of the total graduates in the country, should be developed as a centre of excellence keeping in mind the changed context. Also speaking on the occasion, culture expert Satya Mohan Joshi stressed that TU should adopt scientific methods and technological knowledge from more developed western countries to impart education in ways that will enhance employment opportunities for students. TU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Tirtha Raj Khaniya shared that efforts were being made to make improve the quality of education in TU. As many as 9,734 students had attended the convocation ceremony out of which 68 students who had completed their PhD in different subjects were provided with doctoral certificates on the occasion. Likewise, 37 students attaining the highest grades in different faculties were also presented with prizes and medals.
