Gyewali to furnish clarification tomorrow

By Himalayan News Service

Kathmandu, January 6 Chief Executive Officer of National Reconstruction Authority Sushil Gyewali will furnish further clarification regarding his work performance to the government on Sunday. Yesterday, the government had sent yet another letter asking him to furnish further clarification within 24 hours why he shouldn’t be dismissed from his post. An aide to Gyewali told THT that NRA CEO received the letter from the government today at 11:23am, and he would reply only on Sunday, as Saturday is a public holiday. In the new two-page letter, the CEO was charged with failing to coordinate properly with relevant stakeholders, falling short in rehabilitation of displaced quake-victims and being unable to disburse house reconstruction grants to the beneficiaries. A Cabinet meeting presided over by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal yesterday had decided to sack Gyewali from his post. It is learnt that the decision was not made public given a legal maturity period of 24 hours for such crucial decisions. The Cabinet reached an understanding to announce the sacking of Gyewali and naming his successor simultaneously, most probably on Sunday or Monday. On December 29, Gyewali was given one week to furnish clarification on NRA’s poor performance. He submitted a 12-page clarification on January 4, claiming that the government had no ground to remove him. The Cabinet, however, reviewed his clarification and concluded that it was not satisfactory. Gyewali has threatened to move the Supreme Court if he is dismissed. He was appointed by the erstwhile KP Sharma Oli-led coalition government in December 2015.
