KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority on Sunday filed a graft case at the Special Court against suspended lawmaker and former state minister Sanjay Sah seeking a fine of more than Rs 315 million. The anti-corruption constitutional body said the controversial lawmaker earned the property worth that amount during his two terms as a lawmaker and a term as the Minister of State for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, over past few years. The Commission had received a complaint seeking a probe into his property, according to a statement issued today. Upon investigating property details of Sah, his family members and companies and commercial enterprises he was associated with, it was found that his property worth Rs 315 million and 26,559 did not have any legal source, the statement informed. It means he committed an offence as per Section 20.1 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2002 and therefore he would face the action in accordance with Section 20.2 of the same law, the Commission said. The Commission also demanded additional action against him as per Section 24 of the Act, as he also enjoyed public positions as a lawmaker twice and a minister once. Sah's father Sadhu Sah Sudi, mother Dulari Devi Sudi, wife Rangila Devi, younger brother Ram Kumar and two staff of one of his companies - Ram Milan Raut Kurmi and Manoj Kumar Singh - have also been made defendants in the case as they helped the accused hide the properties, according to the Commission. The suspended lawmaker is currently in the judicial custody for his alleged involvement in two serious criminal cases. He is accused of his alleged involvement in media entrepreneur Arun Kumar Singhaniya’s murder in 2010 and a bomb explosion case at Ramanada Chok of Janakpur in 2012. Earlier, he had faced a 21-month jail term for an arms and ammunition case. He was also convicted in a public offence case.
