House endorses two bills on voters' list, Election Commission

KATHMANDU: The Parliament on Wednesday endorsed the Voters' List Bill and the Election Commission Bill unanimously. With the endorsement, the House prepared a legal foundation to hold elections as per the new Constitution. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs had tabled proposals to endorse the bills. The State Affairs Committee of the Parliament had forwarded the draft laws to the full House on Monday. Meanwhile, the next Parliament meeting has been called for 1 pm on Friday. (Updated) House endorses Voters' List Bill KATHMANDU: The Parliament on Wednesday endorsed the Voters' List Bill. It was one of the major legal documents required to hold elections as per the new Constitution. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bimalendra Nidhi had presented a proposal to endorse the bill after he tabled the draft law. Earlier on Monday, the State Affairs Committee of the Parliament had endorsed the bill along with the Election Commission Bill. The Parliament is scheduled to endorse the second bill today itself. Taking part in the discussion on the bill today, lawmakers Prem Suwal and Mina Pun had criticised the bill claiming their proposals for the amendments were not addressed. Addressing their concerns, DPM Nidhi said the bill was brought with an objective to ensure enfranchisement right of Nepali citizens. He requested the lawmakers to endorse the bill as it was in accordance to sentiments of the Constitution and democratic values.
