KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has invited the Madhesi parties for fresh talks a day after the latter announced fresh agitation. The meeting has been scheduled for 9 am Monday at Baluwatar, according to Sadbhawana Party's General Secretary Manish Kumar Suman. Prime Minister Dahal's personal aide Manahari Timalsina, however, said time of meeting would be confirmed this evening only. Prime Minister Dahal's chief political advisor Chakrapani Khanal had told THT Online earlier today that Prime Minister Dahal would meet the Madhesi parties prior to announcing the date of local elections. While the Prime Minister is under a heavy pressure to announce the poll dates from the ruling coalition partner Nepali Congress and the main opposition CPN-UML, the agitating Madhesi parties have been warning the PM not to announce the polls before the endorsement of the Constitution amendment bill. All parties of the United Democratic Madhesi Front would take part in the meeting, according to Suman. Earlier on January 24, leaders of two ruling parties -- Prime Minister Dahal's CPN Maoist Centre and Nepali Congress -- had held a meeting with Madhesi parties and agreed to intensify talks and resolve the confusion over elections and proposed amendment to Constitution politically. No concrete progress, however, has been achieved since then and the Madhesi parties have been demanding that the amendment bill be revised.
