Himalayan Sherpa shoot Nepal APF out

Jhapa, January 30 Himalayan Sherpa Club came from two goals down to beat Nepal APF Club 3-2 on penalties and advanced to the quarter-finals of the Rumpum Jhapa Gold Cup here at the Domalal Stadium today. Himalayan Sherpa won the spot kick battle after both the teams played a 2-2 draw in the regulation period of 90 minutes and 20 minutes of extra time. Heman Gurung, Nirajan Khadka and Nishan Limbu converted the spot kicks for Himalayan Sherpa, while Bhupal Gurung and Sunil Bal failed to score. APF’s Nabin Lama and Rajendra Rawal scored on penalties, while Sudeep Sikhrakar, skipper Milan Rai and Santosh Katuwal failed to convert their shots. In the regulation period, Yuvraj Khadka opened the scoring for APF in the 59th minute on Shyam Nepali’s pass and doubled the tally in the 75th minute utilising Nabin Lama’s cross. However, Himalayan Sherpa struck twice in two minutes to level the tally. Sunil Bal cut the deficit in the 87th minute and Nishan Limbu scored the equaliser a minute later. APF had created more goal scoring chances than Himalayan Sherpa but failed to find the back of the nets. Nabin Lama’s powerful shot in the 23rd minute was denied by Himalayan Sherpa glovesman Kishor Giri, who also stood firm when Yuvaraj Khadka tried two powerful shots in the 39th and 41st minutes. Himalayan Sherpa’s goalie Giri was named the man-of-the-match and got Rs 7,000 from Max Housing Pvt Ltd, while spectator Deepa Timalsina received Rs 5,000 from Expert Education and Visa Service after being announced as the expert fan of the day.  On Tuesday, Rupandehi-XI will meet Tribhuvan Army Club.
