JANAKPURDHAM: Nepal Police detained CK Raut, a staunch advocate for the Madhes region's secession from Nepal, from a house in Machhabazar area of Janakpur in Dhanusha district on Thursday afternoon. Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Lal Mani Acharya, informed that Raut was apprehended from Janakpur on a request made by the Lahan-based Area Police Office of neighbouring Siraha district. Raut, who spearheads the secessionist movement through the Alliance for Independent Madhes as its leader, dubbed his detention as nonjudicial, claiming that he has not done anything tantamount to treason. Police do not have right to break doors and barge into [my] room, he told media people after his arrest at around 3 pm. According to him, police arrested without forging any warrant. Police source told THT Online that Raut faces treason charges for his recent speech delivered in Lahan at a programme organised to mark the death anniversary of Ramesh Mahato, who was the first person to lose life in the Madhesh agitation. Earlier on November 25 last year, Raut was arrested from Janakpurdham on treason charges for demanding secession of the Madhes region from Nepal. He, however, was acquitted by the Supreme Court later.
