KATHMANDU: The Impeachment Recommendation Committee concluded that most of the charges made against the former Chief of Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) Lok Man Singh Karki while filing an impeachment motion against him were valid. A three-member sub-committee formed under the parliamentary panel finalised its report with the same conclusion, the sub-committee member Rewati Raman Bhandari said. The IRC would discuss the report on Thursday, it has been learned. The report has also suggested that the Parliament now can direct concerned bodies to further probe Karki's involvement in various activities beyond his jurisdiction while in office and take actions accordingly.

The IRC on January 18 had formed a three-member sub-committee comprising Bhandari of CPN-UML, Deepak Kuinkel of Nepali Congress and Ram Narayan Bidari of CPN Maoist Centre to look into the charges. It, however, had concluded that Karki should not be impeached now as he had already been removed from the Supreme Court's January 8 order citing his disqualification for the constitutional position. The impeachment motion against Karki was registered at the Parliament Secretariat on October 19, 2016 by 157 lawmakers in accordance to Article 101 of the Constitution.
