Indian players dominate boys’ singles event

Lalitpur, February 9 India’s four players entered the boys’ singles semi-finals of the Nepal ITF Junior U-18 Circuit-I Tennis Championship here at the Satdobato Tennis Complex today. In the quarter-final matches, Atharva Sharma beat Pengyu Lu of China 6-3, 6-1, Mritunjay Badola saw off his teammate Dipin Wadhwa 6-0, 4-6, 6-2, Piyush S Salekar recorded a 6-1, 7-5 win over Poland’s Michal Wozniak and Kabir Manrai beat Ishan Sethi, also from India, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1. In the girls’ singles, Yujiao Che of China beat Punnin Kovapitukted of Thailand 3-6, 6-2, 7-6, while Vaidehi Chaudhari of India outplayed Jing Yang of China 3-6, 6-1, 6-0, Mingqiao Yang of China saw off Sharannya Gaware of India 6-1, 6-4 and Shivani Swarup Ingle of India defeated Japanese opponent Mio Kozaki 6-4, 6-1 to enter the semi-finals. Likewise, the pair of Pengyu Lu and Guangsen Wen of China beat Indian duo Jaishvin Sidana and Adarsh Naga Tippabhatla 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the final, while in the all-India semi-final match, the pair of Gunjan Jadhav and Atharva Sharma saw off Mritunjay Badola and Dipin Wadhwa 7-6, 6-1. In the girls’ section, Chinese pair of Na Dong and Mingalao Yang defeated Anjail Mogili (USA) and Bhavya Ramineni (India) 6-4, 3-6, 12-10, while Chunxi Guo of China and Punnin Kovapitukted of Thailand won their match against Chinese pair of Zongyu Li and Jing Yang 6-4, 6-7, 10-7 to make it to the final.
