Man held for defrauding foreign employment aspirants

KATHMANDU: A man allegedly swindling at least eight gullible foreign employment aspirants of thousands of rupees has landed in police net on Friday. A team deployed from the Metropolitan Crime Division arrested Devraj Tamang (39), a permanent resident of Saryunkharka-7 of Kavre district, from Basundhara of Kathmandu. He was the operator of the Basundhara-based Chandika International Education Consultancy. The MCD in a statement today informed that he defrauded one Chhapan Sari Rai of Bahunidanda-9 of Khotang district of Rs 205,000 assuring her that she would get a Japanese work visa and a lucrative job as a cook there. Likewise, he collected Rs 840,000 from seven persons assuring them of agricultural research visas of Japan. He had told the victims that they would get handsome payments from the jobs before turning incommunicado recently. The victims had filed a complaint at the MCD after knowing the trickery. Meanwhile, the suspect has been sent to the Teku-based Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, for further investigation and action.
