The District Police Office (DPO), Chitwan, arrested six persons with seven litres of phensydel, a sedative used mainly by drug addicts. The DPO said at a press conference today that the six were arrested from different places of Chitwan and Nawalparasi in course of four days.

Kanhaiyya Lal Yadav, Manoj Kumar Gupta, and Keshav Raj Yadav of Ram Purwa-5, Nawalparasi, are among those arrested. While Kanhaiyya and Manoj Kumar were arrested from Narayangarh, Keshav was arrested from the Maheshpur border, the police said, adding that Nista Thapa of Gaindakot village development committee-3, Anand Poudel and Kumar Lama of Bharatpur-11 were also arrested.

In the press conference, police inspector at the District Police Office, Govinda Puri, said 78.5 litres of Fencidil was smuggled into Narayangarh from the Maheshpur border point alone.

Kumar Lama, who was arrested a year ago for peddling Phensydel, was released on bail, Puri said. The six told journalists that they used to bring the drug from from India in bottles of Coca Cola and in plastic gallons. The price of Phensydel in India is Rs 50 IC per 100 ml. In Narayangarh, it is sold at Rs 300 to Rs 800 per 100 ml, they said. Inspector Puri added that the Fencidil dealers could face up to 2 to 10 years of prison or Rs 2,00,000 penalty or both.
