JANAKPURDHAM: Former President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has urged the main opposition CPN-UML and the agitating Untied Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) to be flexible and the ruling parties to play a coordinating role in order to break the current political deadlock and conduct elections in the country. He asked the political parties to work together, sacrificing whatsoever is needed to institutionalise the federal democratic republic. Admitting mistake was committed when the Constitution was promulgated in September 2015, the former president said, “Bigger mistake should not be made now. If moved ahead carefully then the Constitution can be implemented and democracy institutionalised.” He was speaking at the inaugural of Federation of Nepali Journalists’s 10th Dhanusha district convention today. He recalled that he was criticised for opining that the Constitution could be delayed by two or three months in order to gain the good will of all communities and classes. “The sky would not fall in if there was a delay by two months,” he said, “Eighteen months have passed but it is yet uncertain how long it would take to implement the Constitution.” Referring to the 12-point agreement made in the past, he, however, expressed his hope that the political parties would break the deadlock through agreement as they did in the past.
