TIA gold haul: CIB arrests four jewellery shop operators

KATHMANDU: A team of the Central Investigation Bureau on Tuesday arrested four people for their alleged involvement in the smuggling of 33 kg gold that was seized from Pingalasthan around two months ago. According to the CIB's spokesperson Superintendent of Police Mira Chaudhary, the arrestees have been identified as Manoj Shrestha, Rojesh Shakya, Sunil Shrestha and Narayan Shrestha. SP Chaudhary said they were arrested at around 6 pm yesterday from their New Road-based shop, Baibhav Laxmi Gold And Silver Palace. The arrestees would be presented before the District Court today to seek remand for further investigation, SP Chaudhary added. Police on January 5 had arrested three suspected smugglers in possession of the 33 kg hallmark gold from Pingalasthan near the the Tribhuvan International Airport after the trio successfully skipped security checks at the TIA.
