KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal's son and personal secretary Sakar Dahal aka Prakash has publicly admitted that he possesses a gun. 'Yes, it is true that I acquired 12-Bore gun completing legal procedure...,' Prakash wrote on Facebook yesterday after the Nepal Samacharpatra reported that he has bought a modern rifle paying Rs 1.5 million. He, however, dismissed the report that he paid Rs 1.5 million for the lethal weapon. According to him, the 12-Bore gun is worth only Rs 1,50,000 including tax. Prakash, who has been dragged into controversies several times in the past due to his wayward nature and hasty remarks on social media, currently resides with his father at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar amid heavy security arrangements. Maoist Chairman Dahal, after getting elected as the Prime Minister for the second time last yea, had appointed his son as one of his personal secretaries  The Prime Minister's son, who has been sarcastically called 'crown prince' by many on social media, had applied for permission from the Kathmandu District Administration Office to buy and possess the lethal weapon more than one year ago, claiming that he faces security threat. The DAO granted him a license as per the Arms and Ammunition Act on Thursday after he imported the gun from Italy along with 200 bullets. It is said that Prakash has fetish for guns since the Maoist war days. He has shared few photographs posing with guns on Facebook. 'Nepal's law secures right to everybody to possess weapon [gun] by completing certain legal procedure,' he said, 'Yes, it is true that I acquired 12-Bore gun completing the very legal procedure.' 'But it is not called for to exaggerate the issue of [my] possession of weapon [gun],' he wrote, claiming that 'hundreds of senior journalists, generally all (sic) hundreds of leaders, army and police [officials] after retirement from the service and almost tens of thousands have been keeping weapons as per the law.' Nepal's Arms and Ammunition Act, 2019 (1962) Section 10. The procedure of acquiring or renewing the licence: (1) Any person shall, for acquiring the licence under this Act, submit an application in the prescribed form and pay the prescribed fee to the Chief District Officer. (2) After the submission of application by anybody under Sub-section(1), if the Chief District Officer deems it fit to issue the licence with the conditions as written in the application after scrutinizing it as specified he/she may issue a licence in the prescribed form to the applicant with the terms and conditions as prescribed (3) The term of each licence issued under Sub-section (2) and the process of renewing it, the place and the fee to be paid while so renewing shall be as prescribed.
