Kathmandu, March 27 The capital city of Nepal, Kathmandu, has become the third most expensive city of south Asia. According to a report recently prepared and made public by the Economist Intelligence Unit, the research and analysis division of The Economist Group, the cost of living in Kathmandu is more expensive than that of New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Karachi. The report shows that Kathmandu has secured the 116th position in the list of most expensive cities after Dhaka of Bangladesh (62) and Colombo of Sri Lanka (108). There were eight South Asian cities including New Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, Karachi and Bangalore in the Economist Intelligence Unit’s survey. Report says, half of the world’s ten most expensive cities for living are in Asia, with Singapore and Hong Kong firmly defending their top two spots from a year ago. It is said that the survey has compared more than 400 individual prices across 160 goods and services in 133 cities around the world. According to the EIU, goods and services also include food, drink, clothing, household supplies and personal care items and housing rents, among others.
