BANEPA: Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhi Prasad Yadav has stressed that the women's participation in the upcoming local level elections should be at least 50 per cent. Highlighting the poor implementation of 33 per cent women representation in the earlier elections while speaking at an orientation programme organised in Dhulikhel, Yadav said the local elections would provide an opportunity to ensure the rights of people belonging to every marginalised community including Dalits and Janajatis among others. 'We must discourage the trend followed by political parties to win elections at any cost,' he added. Similarly, Joint Secretary of EC, Dipak Subedi stated the need of equal access of women at every phase of the elections. Likewise, Election Officer Madhukar Prasad Pokharel informed that at least 270 women and 32 from Dalit and marginalised community would be elected from the district. Around 65 participants from various areas have participated in the two-day programme.
