Kathmandu, March 31 State Affairs Committee of the Parliament has directed the Ministry of General Administration to look for government employees holding permanent residency in foreign countries. At a committee meeting today, Minister Keshav Kumar Budhathoki informed lawmakers that as of now, 34 out of 73 civil servants have abandoned their permanent residency in foreign countries. After the fourth amendment to the Civil Service Act 1993 two years ago, the government had stated taking action against civil servants holding Green Card or permanent residency in foreign countries. Speaking at the meeting, lawmaker Gangalal Tuladhar cast doubts over the data provided by the ministry and asked ministry officials to further investigate the issue. Nepal Workers and Peasants Party lawmaker Prem Suwal said leaders holding dual citizenship should also be brought under the scanner. The House panel also directed the ministry and Civil Service Hospital to prioritise treatment of government employees. It also directed the ministry to strengthen the capacity of Staff College. The panel asked the government to form a powerful commission to manage human resources for the newly formed local levels. Likewise, SAC also directed authorities concerned to increase the number of training and opportunities for civil servants. The committee asked Staff Collage to prepare short-term training for staffers to be deployed at newly formed local levels.
