Lalitpur, April 2 An eight-member boxing team, including three boxers, is on Monday leaving  for Thailand to take part in the Thailand International Boxing Championship (Kings Cup) slated for April  3-9. Prem Chaudhary will compete in the men’s 52kg weight category, while Deepak Shrestha will take part in the 64kg and Bishnu Ghale will vie in the 69kg category in the tournament. Senior coaches Prabin Tuladhar and Dambar  Dutta Bhatta and assistant coach Deepak Maharjan, team manager Pranir  Adhikari and Nepal Boxing Association President Ram Awale will accompany the players to Bangkok. National Sports Council (NSC) Member Secretary Keshab Kumar Bista bade farewell to the team at  a programme organised at the International Sports Complex today. Bista said the country had a lot of expectations from boxers in international tournaments. “Past records show that boxers have won medals in the international competitions. But it is a different story in recent years,” he said. Bista asked the association officials to prepare the players with focus on international medals. “The association needs to prepare well so that Nepali boxers can win medals in  the upcoming Asian Games. We are ready to provide the association with necessary support,” said Bista. The NSC Member Secretary also blamed the officials of taking personal benefits from sports rather than working for the athletes. “I have found that officials focus on their personal growth from sports instead of working for the betterment of sports and the players,” Bista added. Meanwhile, NBA Spokesperson Shyam Awale announced the reward of Rs 100,000, Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 for gold, silver and bronze medals respectively. Similarly, NBA Vice-president Deepak Gurung and Member Om Narayan Shrestha announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for winning each bout in Bangkok.
