Cops, locals hurt as Bisket Jatra revellers throw stones at each other

KATHMANDU: At least five persons, including police officials, were injured after two groups of revellers clashed while pulling Bhairav's chariot as a part of the Bisket Jatra at Taumadhi of Bhaktapur on Monday evening.

Among the injured are Deputy Superintendent of Police Saroj Khatri, ASI Ambika Lama, Constable Laxmi Malla, Saroj Shilpakar of Banshagopal and Sanjeev Madhikarmi of Kamal Binayak, the Rastriya Samachar Samiti reported.

DSP Khatri has been referred to the Maharajganj-based Nepal Police Hospital while the others are receiving treatment in the Bhaktapur Hospital.

Tension ran high after the residents of two neighbourhoods started pelting stones at each other at around 9 pm.

Clashes are common in the festival.
