China provides stationery, other materials worth Rs 144 million for local level elections

Kathmandu, April 12 China has provided stationery and other materials worth Rs 144 million for local level elections slated for May 14. Amid a ceremony held at Tribhuvan International Airport today, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Yu Hong handed over the materials to the Election Commission’s Secretary Gopinath Mainali. The Election Commission said that gel pens, stamp pads, ink, table clock, calculators, scales, punching machines, mats and glue-stick are among the materials provided by the northern neighbour. The election body said that it would supply those materials to the districts with other electoral materials such as ballot paper, voters’ identity cards, electoral rolls, voters’ education materials and others. Meanwhile, the Election Commission said that 30,000 ballot boxes had arrived in the Rasuwa Gadhi-kerung customs point from China. Earlier, the commission has signed a deal with contractor to buy 30,000 ballot boxes from China. EC officials said that the contractor has committed to deliver ballot boxes after completing customs procedures.
