Lalitpur, May 16 Nepal boys’ team recorded a 2-1 victory over Sri Lanka on the second day of the South Asia Regional Qualifying for the ITF Asian U-12 Team Championship here at the Satdobato Tennis Complex today. In the Group B singles match match, Aryan Giri registered a hard fought 6-4, 0-6, 7-6(7) victory over Vichithya Sarindu Nilaweera to level the scores at 1-1. Giri then teamed up with Aarav Samrat Hada to beat the Sri Lankan pair of Wenuka Kithnula and Vichithya Sarindu Nilaweera 4-6, 6-2, 10-5 in the doubles match to seal the victory for the home side. On Monday, Hada had faced defeat against Wenuka Kithnula in the singles match. In another match, Nepal faced a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Bangladesh. Giri produced a 1-4, 4-0, 4-1 win against Mahadi Hasan Alve, while Hada faced a 5-3, 4-1 defeat against Md Roman Hossain. In the doubles match, the pair of Giri and Hada lost 5-4(2), 4-2 against the pair of Md Roman Hossain and Zubaed Utsho. Similarly, Pakistan’s Hamid Israr defated Mahadi Hasan Alve of Bangladesh 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in Group B, while the Bangladesh pair of Mahadi Hasan Alve and Md Roman Hossain saw off the the Pakistani duo of Hamid Israr and Kashan Umar Khalil 6-2, 6-2. In Group A, Bhutan’s Jigme Norbu beat Mohamed Namiq Shahid of the Maldives 6-1, 6-1, while the pair of Jigme Norbu and Thinley Dorji beat Raudhak Maumoon and Ahmed Maakin Maud of Maldives 6-2, 6-2. However, Bhutan went down by 3-0 at the hands of India, while Sri Lanka beat Pakistan 2-1 in Group B matches. In girls’ section, Nepal, who had recorded a 3-0 win against the Maldives on Monday, lost all three matches against India in Group A. Sharvani Shrestha lost to Sweta Samanta 4-0, 4-1 and Isha Shree Shah went down to Anjali Rathi 4-1, 4-0. The pair of Sharvani Shrestha and Shubhangee Laxmi Shah was beaten by Shruti Ahlawat and Anjali Rathi 4-0, 4-0. Also, Bangladesh’s Mashfia Afrin beat Sonam Chuki Dorji of Bhutan 6-1, 6-1, while the Bhutanese pair of Karma Yuden Dorji and Sonam Chuki Dorji beat Sadia Afrin and Dipanita Mittra of Bangladesh 6-1, 6-4. Similarly, Sri Lanka dominated Bhutan as Dinethya Dharmarate beat Karma Yuden Dorji 4-0, 4-0, while Neshani Imanga saw off Sonam Chuki Dorji by the same scores before the pair of Dharmarate and Imanga beat Karma and Sonam 4-2, 4-0.
