Rally taken out against VAW in public places

Kathmandu, May 20 A morning rally was taken out in Kathmandu Valley today in order to raise awareness against violence against women and girls in public places. Youth Advocacy Nepal, Nepal Mahila Ekata Samaj and National Woman Rights Forum, among other organisations, jointly took out the rally which saw the participation of around 300 youths. The rally started from Maitighar Mandala and converged into a corner meeting after arriving at Ratna Park. During the rally, participants demanded the installation of CCTV cameras in crowded places of the city, the construction of adequate number of rest rooms equipped with all facilities for women at public places, and a complaint desk staffed with capable human resources for receiving complaints regarding violence meted out to women and girls in public locations. Addressing the rally, YAN Chairman Narendra Khatiwada said that women and girls were under increasing threat of violence as roads, hospitals, roadside shelters, parks, offices and public places were not gender-friendly. Khatiwada also called for the effective implementation of the country’s laws and regulations to end VAW.
