BANEPA: A total of 30,000 earthquake survivors in Kavre have applied for timbers that were to be distributed to reconstruct the houses damaged in the devastating 2015 earthquakes. The flow of applications for the same continues, said Officer Prem Khanal at the District Forest Office. 'Some of the applicants are under the false information that timbers are distributed to quake survivors for free, which is not true,' he said adding that timber is sold for a price relatively lower than its market rate. “One cubic feet timber sells for Rs 6, 500 in Kathmandu market.” It requires 10,000 cubic feet timber for the quake survivors and the supply would be made from Tarai districts. The distribution would complete before Dashain festival as the Department of Forest has already been informed in this regard. 'We have asked for house design from the quake survivors, their landownership certificate, identity card and timber will be distributed after verifying the documents,' he said.
