Kavre, July 14 Reconstruction of community schools damaged in the 2015 earthquakes has gained momentum in Kavre. According to Govindraj Sedai, chief of Kavre District Project Implementation Unit under National Reconstruction Authority, 71 schools in the district are under reconstruction. “Reconstruction of 24 out of the total 71 schools is in the final stage. The schools have two to four-room buildings,” said Sedain and added that the reconstructed schools would be disabled-friendly. Of the schools under construction, 21 have a two-room building, 22 have have three-room building, 17 have a four-room building, five have a six-room building and six have an eight-room building, said Sedai. As per the earlier plan, the school buildings with two to four rooms were supposed to be completed by the end of this fiscal. However, the target could not be met due to the recently held local level elections. The government has allocated Rs 270 million for the reconstruction of quake-ravaged schools in the district. Meanwhile, an additional Rs 260 million has been allocated for repairs of quake-damaged schools in the district. According to Sedain, as many as 365 schools are now being repaired using the fund. As per data at the Department of Education, a total of 558 schools need to be reconstructed in the district.
