Pokhara, August 8 Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli today complained that efforts were made to drag him into controversy despite the fact that he was working with sincerity and restraint. Speaking at a programme organised by the High Court Bar Association Pokhara and District Bar Association Kaski in Pokhara, Parajuli said efforts were made to drag him into controversy despite his innocence. He, however, pledged to discharge his duty with sincerity. “The Pandav brothers were kept in the Lakshayagriha despite being innocent. I too emerged from the Lakshyagriha. Thus, I have no option but to become Yudhisthir and do some good”, Parajuli added. Parajuli commented that law professionals and the judiciary were two parts of the same coin. “Both lawyers and the judiciary have to work in tandem to provide justice,” he stated. Stating that lawyers and legal eagles were agents of rule of law, Parajuli argued that death of legal eagles was the demise of justice. Parajuli said 23 per cent of heads of state and heads of government had come from the legal pedigree in the world. He recalled that it was during his tenure at the Appellate Court in Pokhara that he had issued a verdict to stop the contamination of Phewa Lake, and to curb use of plastic in the Lake City. He disclosed that more than half the number of senior advocates who would be felicitated on August 11 were from Kaski. Chief Registrar Nahakul Subedi at the Supreme Court said the apex Court was mulling formation of a commerce bench at the high court in Provinces 2 and 4. He urged legal eagles and court staffers to be ready as all types of cases would be registered online. Chief Justice Parajuli inspected the High Court in Pokhara and District Court, Kaski. He directed the judges to work in such a way that people feel justice. He congratulated Pokhara High Court for being an excellent court. Meanwhile, Sports Development Committee Chief Mahendra Yadav said they would halt the payment if the work was not completed in line with the agreement. The contracting company has already received Rs 1.5 million in payment. Spread in two bigaha, seven kathha and 13 dhur land, the stadium has the capacity to accommodate 7,000 spectators. It is one of the oldest stadiums constructed in 1979.
