Eastern Nepal flood, landslide death toll reaches 46; 15 missing

BHOJPUR: At least 46 people have died and 15 are missing in the floods and landslides triggered by the incessant rainfall in the eastern Nepal. As many as 43 people have lost life in flooding;11 in Jhapa, 17 in Morang, 12 in Sunsari, 1 in Saptair district, 2 in Udayapur  until Wednesday morning while 3 people have been killed in landslips; 2 in Panchthar and 1 in Ilam, according to the Eastern Regional Police office, Biratnagar, . A total of 15 people are missing in both landslides and flood, 3 in Panchthar, 2 in Jhapa, 4 in Morang, 5 in Sunsari and 1 in Saptari. It has been reported that 389 houses were completely damaged in landslides and floods that killed 363 domestic animals and 2,275 livestocks. Over 4,500 paramilitary and police forces deployed from Eastern Regional Training Centre, Regional Armed Police Battalion, Nepal Danga (chaos control) Police including the concerned district and area police offices have been mobilised in the relief and rescue operation in the landslides and flood-hit areas in the country's Eastern Region. Meanwhile, the flood and landslide victims have been shifted on the premises of local schools, temples and other public halls. Similarly, local social institutions and associations have been providing them with relief items.
