Kathmandu, January 18:
The eight student unions today organised a “running protest” as a part of a series of programmes against the municipal elections slated for February 8.
“Around 100 students carrying black flags and with black strips on their wrists staged a running rally from Ason Chowk to Chhetrapati from 8:30-9:30 today morning,” Mahendra Sharma, president of Nepal Student Union (NSU), said.
Meanwhile, the All Nepal National Free Students’ Union (ANNFSU) today burnt symbolic ballot boxes at Patan Multiple Campus. Police intervened in the protest inside the campus premises and dispersed the gathering.
In Maitidevi, the NSU staged a chakkajam for 15 minutes, which was followed by a protest rally. The students also burnt copies of the prohibitory order. According to Sharma, students burnt symbolic ballot boxes in all 58 municipalities across the country. No arrests were made till the evening, Sharma added.
