KATHMANDU: The main opposition party CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli has urged Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to raise issues of national interest especially Terai inundation with his Indian counterpart during his visit to southern neighbour. Former PM KP Sharma Oli speaking in a special hour of the Legislature-Parliament meeting today, urged PM Deuba to raise issues of energy development, 1950's treaty, border river dams, Koshi dam and the extradition treaty during his state visit. Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba after being elected to the executive head of Nepal through parliament voting on June 6 is set to embark on his first foreign official state visit to India tomorrow morning. PM Deuba is leading a 48-member delegation to the southern neighbour at the cordial invitation of Indian PM Narendra Modi. Former PM Oli also said that Nepal as the chair of SAARC should play a significant role to de-escalate geopolitical and other tensions existing in the region. He also opined that a bilateral energy policy unveiled by India was not in the interest of Nepal and would contribute nothing to the promotion of Nepal's energy sector. UML Chair Oli also went on to say that the constitution amendment bill tabled at the House failed as it was against national interest and brought in inappropriate manner. PM Deuba would return home on August 27. Earlier, more than 145 people lost their lives in flash flood in Terai region and 3 dozen others are reported missing after flood inundated more than 26 districts in the region.
