251 people displaced in Bara flash flood

BARA: At least 251 people have been displaced after flash flood triggered by incessant rainfall for last four days inundated most areas in Bara district recently. Chief District Officer Bijaya Narayan Manandhar said that 251 persons of 47 families have been taking shelters in nearby schools, cow sheds and road side. He further said a preliminary investigation has showed that 15,000 people of 1200 families have been badly affected in the disaster. CDO Manandhar informed that the actual data would be made public after Nepal Red Cross, Nepal Police, District Agriculture Development Office and other organisations submit their data to the administration. Meanwhile, various orgnisations and political parties have been distributing relief items to the flood survivors in the district. Bara District Agriculture Development Office said crops worth Rs 1.38 billion have been destroyed in the disaster. Senior Agriculture Development Officer Shiva Ratna Sah said flood destroyed paddy cultivated in 300 hectare, fish farming in 500 hectare and vegetable farming in 1000 hectare of land have been swept away by flood. Similarly, livestocks worth Rs 7 million were also destroyed in the flood. It has been learned that 60 people residing in Manju Shree Primary School have not received any support or relief from any organisations or government agencies till date. Most of the houses have been flood swamped in the area. At least 145 people lost their lives and more then 3 dozen others are still reported missing after the disaster in the region.
