Jhapa, January 19:
Rickshaw pullers here have refused to use their rickshaws for publicity of municipal polls at Kankadbhitta of Mechinagar Municipality of Jhapa.
A rickshaw puller, Dhanpati Upreti, said his rickshaw was hired for poll campaign under a false pretext at the Kankadbhitta bazaar.
“I will not provide my rickshaw for poll campaign because the situation in the country is not good. I am well aware that the municipal poll is going to be held for suppressing the political parties. We should not support such an election,” he said.
City police of Mechinagar had hired his rickshaw for Rs 300/400 to go around the city but they installed a mike on the rickshaw and were about to play a cassette campaigning about the upcoming election, he informed.
Other rickshaw pullers of the area have also said they would not use their rickshaws for poll campaign.
