Sunsari, August 25 Twelve people lost their lives in Sunsari, while property worth over Rs 2 billion was damaged in the recent flood in the district. According to official data of the District Administration Office, the damage is estimated at somewhere near Rs 2.110 billion, with the industrial sector bearing the brunt. Damage to the industrial sector stands at Rs 611 million. Similarly, agriculture sector suffered damage worth Rs 422.8 million. Likewise, according to Chief District Officer Gopal Prasad Parajuli, Rs 408.46 million was damaged when floods destroyed bridges, embankments and canals. An additional Rs 80.8 million worth of property of as many as 3,232 families was also damaged in the floods. The details of flood-related damage was made public at a Natural Disaster Rescue Committee meeting held in Inaruwa today. “There has been massive damage, and we have decided to ask compensation,” said CDO Parajuli.
