Sister Nirmala returns
POKHARA: After visting different social organisations in Pokhara, Sister Nirmala, the head of the Missionaries of Charities, returned to Kathmandu on Friday. Sister Nirmala had arrived in Pokhara on Tuesday. During her stay here, Sister Nirmala visited, among other places, St Marys’ School, SOS Childrens’ Village and Shuvakamana School. Before leaving Pokhara, Sister Nirmala asked all her well-wishers to quit their self-interests and work for the good of the people. — HNS
Blasts damage offices
RAUTAHAT: The Maoists have detonated powerful bombs at the District Land Revenue Office and the Agricultural Development Bank at Gaur, the district headquarter, on Friday evening. Mahesh Shah, a peon at the revenue office, was seriously hurt in the blast and is undergoing treatment at District Hospital, Gaur. The extent of the damage is not known, Keshav Prasad Adhikari, SP of District Police Office, Rautahat, said. The security in the area has been tightened following the explosions and the search for the Maoists is on, police said. — HNS
Boy killed in mishap
HETAUDA: One 11-year-old Amrit Thing was killed on the spot when a Pathalaiya-bound truck hit him at Churiyamai VDC-3, Ratomate, on Friday morning. According to the District Police Office, Makawanpur, the truck with the registration number Na 2 Kha 9664 hit the 4-grade student of Jana Jagriti Secondary School killing him on the spot. Following the accident, the traffic came on halt for two hours on the east-west Mahendra Highway today since 10 am. The truck and the driver are taken under control by the Pathalaiya police, police said. — HNS
Pillion riding banned
HETAUDA: Traffic Police Office (TPO), Makawanpur, has banned pillion-riding on motorcycles in Hetauda. In a notice on Friday, the TPO has called on all to avoid pillion-riding until February 9. The decision has been taken for security reasons, the notice said. Traffic police personnel were busy informing motorcycle riders about the new rule throughout the day. — HNS
Maoist gives in
SUNSARI: Former chairperson of the Maoist-affiliated Tharuwan Mukti Morcha, Sunsari, Indira Chaudhary, has surrendered before the local administration. Regretting for having wasted time by joining the Maoists, she expressed her wish to leave an independent life henceforth. According to the District Police Office, Sunsari, Chaudhary, a resident of Aurabani VDC-3 in Sunsari district, had been leading the front in the district since 2057 BS. She was also a member of the ANNISU Revolutionary at the Sunsari Multiple Campus. Chaudhary had fled the Maoist camp and reached Kathmandu after she sustained injuries in a clash between security forces and the Maoists at Yangshila of Morang, it is learnt. — RSS
Youth seeks help
SUNSARI: A youth who lost his speech and hearing due to typhoid has arrived in Dharan seeking help for his treatment. A resident of Thuladihi village development committee, Syangja, Dipak Kumar Pokharel, was living with his elder brother at Triyuga Municipality-1 in Udayapur. Pokharel lost his speech and hearing after he suffered from typhoid and could not get proper treatment on time. Doctors have said Pokharel’s treatment would cost Rs

Foundation stone laid
POKHARA: Minister for Education and Sports Radha Krishna Mainali laid the foundation stone of a new four-room building of the Gogen Secondary School at Gagangauda in Lekhnath Municipality-4, on Friday. The building will be completed at an estimated cost of around Rs 2.324 million with assistance from the Town Development Fund, Lekhnath Municipality and the internal resources of the School, according to the School’s Headmaster Puspa Raj Poudel. Speaking at the function, Mainali said the development of academics and protection of physical infrastructure of the school will be possible through mutual cooperation of teachers, guardians and students. Mainali also felicitated former chairman of the School Management Committee Khim B Khatri. — RSS
Free camps
UDAYAPUR: The District Health Office, Udayapur, organised free permanent sterilisation camps at different VDCs in the district. A total of 626 spouses underwent vasectomy and minilap operations at different camps held at different parts of the district on different dates, according to the office. Rs 125 per person and necessary medicine was given to the spouses undergoing operation. — RSS

DAMAULI: Central Member of the Rastriya Janamukti Party, Shiva Lal Thapa, has appealed to all political parties in the country to participate in the forthcoming municipal elections.
