KATHMANDU: The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD) on Sunday took legal action against taxi drivers unwilling to serve the customers trips based on money charged as per the fare-metre reading. The MTPD officers had fanned out across the city in plain clothes and took action against 38 cabbies. The taxi drivers unwilling to provide a taxi trip on metre reading, charging exorbitant fares and dodging service on various pretexts were subjected to action. The cabs unwilling to provide services on various pretext and leaving the passengers stranded on the road were brought within the legal boundary, according to Sarbendra Khanal, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) at the MTPD. At least three taxis without fare-metres and two cabbies without licence were handed over to the Nepal Standards and Metrology Department and Department of Transport Management for necessary action, informed the MTPD. Earlier, the MTPD had impounded more than 150 taxis on the charge of defrauding the passengers by not setting up the billing system.
