Rautahat, September 5 The CPN-UML’s bid for the top post in Gaur Municipality will prove a tough battle as two former mayors have also thrown their hats into the ring representing different political parties. The CPN-UML has fielded Shambhu Sah Kanu for the mayoral post pitting him against Federal Socialist Forum Nepal’s candidate Gauri Shankar Prasad Yadav and Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal’s Ajaya Gupta. While Yadav was appointed in the mayoral post in the municipality during then king Gyanendra Shah’s regime after making it to the post through elections in 1997, Gupta also took charge of the mayoral post in the municipality during the monarchy. During the second Constituent Assembly Election, Gupta, representing Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum Nepal, had lost to UML’s Madhav Kumar Nepal, whereas, Yadav, representing Nepal Sadbhavana Party, had lost to independent candidate Baban Singh in the first Constituent Assembly election. Meanwhile, parties such as the Nepali Congress and CPN-Maoist Centre, however, are yet to make their pick for the mayoral post. Though Nepal Democratic Party has fielded Archana Yadav for the mayoral post, she is considered a weak candidate compared to other candidates.
