Kathmandu, September 22 The National Human Rights Commission has expressed serious concern about the government’s inaction on guaranteeing Nanda Prasad Adhikari’s family the right to perform his final rites as per their religion. Adhikari of Fijel, Gorkha, had died in Bir Hospital on September 22, 2014 after staging fast-unto-death for 333 days. He had been demanding action against the murderers of his son Krishna Prasad. Nanda Prasad’s body is still lying in a fridge of the forensic department at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj. Issuing a press statement today, the constitutional rights watchdog urged  the government to make arrangements for Nanda Prasad’s funeral and do justice to the victim’s family. The national human rights body also urged the government to initiate action those guilty in the murder of Krishna Prasad and implement its recommendations. A police official said Noor Prasad, the Adhikari’ couple’s son, had refused to receive his father’s body for final rites despite their repeated request. Krishna Prasad was allegedly killed by Maoist rebels in Chitwan in June 2004.
