Relationships: Virtual lies and reality

Relationships: Virtual lies and reality

By Suniel Raj Dhakal

A very big Hi to you Ram! I just wanted to let you know that you hold a special place in my heart

— don’t know whether it is day or night, hell or heaven, wherever it is, doesn’t matter. It’s just the sweet image of yours that gladdens my heart and makes me realise I am alive.”

This was the initial part of the e-mail that Ram received from one of his chat friends — a girl around three years younger to him. He had never received such a mail earlier, so he was delighted.

He had first chatted with this girl a year ago, and the usual chatting turned into something special. They shared their joys and grief via the net. They dreamt together of a dream world where no one existed but the two of them and their dreams.

However, Ram had lied to her about a number of things and knew that he would be nothing but an obstacle in her way to success.

And he could not keep lying forever and one day he had to tell her the truth.

That truth mail was the last one between them.

The girl did not reply and he also knew that a relationship based on lies could not survive.

Today I met a girl in the chatroom who says she is a Nepali living in Canada.

It was fun chatting with her but I could not help myself but wonder if she too might have been lying like Ram had done.
