Use RTI to ensure transparency, says president

Kathmandu, October 16 President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has urged all to exercise their right to information to ensure that government offices maintain transparency. Inaugurating a programme organised by National Information Commission here today to mark International Day for Universal Access to Information, President Bhandari said transparency and good governance made democracy stronger. She said it was the responsibility of employees to deliver information demanded by service-seekers. “People are supreme in a democracy,” she added. President Bhandari also praised the initiatives taken by NIC to increase public awareness of right to information among people. On the occasion, the NIC awarded the winners of an essay competition. Similarly, information officers Basudev Nath, Thaneshwor Sapkota and Samjhana Subedi were also awarded at the programme.
