PEOPLESPEAK: Let’s read, cook, gossip, play, sleep...

By Rishi Singh

Baseball has been my childhood obsession since childhood. And guess how I plan to play it during a bandh? There are sure to be some andolankaris, who are going to pelt stones. Isn’t it a good idea if we carry a bat to hit the stones back at them?

The Himalayan Times will be there with us. I almost spend almost two hours reading the paper and during bandhs and curfews, I’ll take four hours to read it.

— Sunita Bhattarai

Although bandhs and curfews hinder our studies, I enjoy most of the bandh days. Bandhs provide me ample time to complete my unfinished assignments. If there were no television and Internet, I’ll probably read and get together with friends. Dating would get the first priority. I’d also clean up my room that is often a mess and listen to some soul soothing music.

— Raju Acharya

The most interesting way to spend time during bandhs would be sit and gossip about what awaits the future of our country. The rest of the time I would get all my pending assignments done.

— Jeena

If there were no Internet and television during bandhs, I would read my favourite books. Since cooking is also one of my hobbies, I would cook different food items for my family and devote my spare time to writing an article about bandhs.

— Usha Pokharel

I would probably read the newspapers and perhaps contemplate on the possible future of the country, which thrives on these, so-called bandhs.

— Govinda Shivakoti

I would get occupied in some creative exercise like painting, writing or crooning the latest Bollywood number and spend the rest of the time cleaning my house and spend sometime with my pet.

— Asmita Shrish

If there were no television or Internet, Iwould spend a few hours reading and listening to music. I’d think about the current situation and getting no answers I’ll probably take a nap and wait for another bandh-free morning.

— Ishwar Kafle

The happiest thing about these bandhs is that you don’t need to get up early to attend to mundane duties. After enjoying my sleep, I’ll eat a leisurely breakfast and then clean my room. Then I’ll relax for sometime and gossip with my friends and neighbours. Finally I’ll get myself a shower because that’s something I hardly get to enjoy.

— Sajana Kayastha

I would spend my time reading books and draw a beautiful picture of my girlfriend.

— Madhav Magar

I would just have some good time with my family. The rest of the time I’d probably read some good books.

— Kusum Thakuri

I’d still manage to play games in my computer and get some latest movies to watch throughout the day. I’d also spend some time reading and then cook something good to eat.

— Abhishek

As I’m too into sports, I’ll spend a good part of the day playing football with my friends. I’ll also train my pooch a few more tricks.

— Ayush Pokharel

I would probably experiment with my cooking talents and prepare a new delicacy. Gardening is yet another option.

— Padam Rajbanshi

I’d either sleep the entire day or probably flip through a few pages of the last book that I never managed to finish.

— Santosh Karki

I’ll be re-reading ‘One hundred years of Solitude’ by Marquez.

— Krishna Thapa

I’ll spend the day cleaning my house, rearranging old photos and get rid of magazines. I’ll also try my hand at cooking something from one of those recipe columns.

— D Tuladhar

Spending bands and curfews along with the family would be the best way to spend it.

— Pratima Pradhan

What about making an arrangement for the family and friends to get together? It can indeed be a good pastime and sometimes productive as well.

— Prajwal Baral

Bandhs make me extremely happy, since I don’t have to attend classes. This is not to say, however, that I spend the entire day doing nothing but instead I prepare for my exams and read magazines and newspapers. I also help my mom and sister in the kitchen. Besides, I wash my clothes, clean rooms, play chungi. And also since THT is one of my best friends during bandhs, there’s nothing to worry about.

— Deepa Singh

“Good books are the best friends that never betray you”. Hence, I would spend a bandh day reading books. Besides, I would also engage myself with occasional tête-à-tête with my family members and get some time to enjoy their company.

— Ganesh Khaniya

A bandh day would be a welcome break from my college schedule. I would probably huddle up with my friends and spend the rest of the day playing basketball.

— Bikram D Sharma

We can make use of a bandh day for a family gathering or extend our social contacts. We can also use the time cleaning around our house and surroundings.

— Eklaxmi Nepal

I would probably tune in to the FM station. But as bandhs and curfews are comparatively more peaceful than other days, it would inspired me to do something creative. I’d write romantic and patriotic poems. Besides playing football, I’m also interested in playing chess, so I’d probably get my friend to checkmate me.
