Kathmandu, November 2 Nepal Ring Wrestling Association is organising the second International Ring Wrestling Championship at the National Sports Council covered hall on November 11. Eight players from Nepal will be joined by three wrestlers from India and one each from the United States of America, Singapore, Australia and Malaysia in the one-day event which is sponsored by Dish Media Network Limited, informed the organisers at a press meet today. The event features seven categories and the wrestlers will fight for medals. “Athletes are guided by passion and we have prepared a platform for the wrestlers to showcase their talent in front of thousands of spectators,” said NRWA President Sunita Thapa. “Wrestling is 50 per cent entertainment and 50 per cent sports.” Thapa said the Nepali players were selected as per their performance in the camp. “We have selected the best eight wrestlers for the championship,” she added. “We have 16 district bodies and we have planned to conduct selection in different centres before taking part in international championship,” said Thapa. The estimated budget of the championship is Rs 5.5 million and Dish Media Network will provide the organisers with 50 per cent of the amount. “It’s a 50-50 deal with Dish Media Network and we are thankful to them for supporting the event,” said Thapa. “We will manage the remaining amount from other sources.” Brand Manager of Dish Media Network Limited Manoj Neupane said the championship was just a beginning and that the company was already planning to establish wrestling as a popular sport in the country. “We want to make wrestling one of the destinations of sports lovers,” said Neupane. “There is a huge fan following in wrestling and we are planning to organise weekly championship in near future,” Neupane added.
