Hailstorm damage crops worth Rs 30 million

TRISHULI: Crops worth more than 30 million rupees were damaged in the hailstorms that occurred last Saturday night in Nuwakot district. The District Agriculture Development Office said that crops, namely paddy, orange, potato, millet were damaged. The crops cultivated in more than 500 hectares of land were damaged, chief of Office Dr Kamalraj Ghaire said. The paddy in some areas in Meghang Rural Municipality was destroyed by up to 90 per cent, Information Officer at the Office Purushottam Subedi said. Crops in Tarakeshwor Rural Municipality, Bidur Municipality, Kakani Rural Municipality and other areas also suffered extensive damage. The Office said that teams of technicians have been deployed to collect the details of the damages caused by the hailstorm.
