National Heritage Human Rights Award to be presented to Acharya

POKHARA: The National Heritage Human Rights Award is to be presented to human rights defender Khaga Raj Acharya this year.

The award, instituted by the Civic Society coordinator Ram Bahadur Poudel and managed by the National Heritage and Public Rights Protection Committee, carries a purse of Rs 10 thousand cash and a copper plaque citation.

A seven-member selection committee coordinated by advocate Tilak Parajuli recommended Acharya's name.

The award is managed from the interest accruing from a revolving fund of Rs 101,111. It is presented to an individual working in the human rights sector every two years.

The award would be presented on the International Human Rights Day on December 10.
