20 per cent complaints filed at CIAA against education sector

Kathmandu, December 14 The central and regional offices of the Commission for the Investigation Abuse of Authority conducted investigation into a total of 19,580 complaints in the fiscal 2016/17, says the 27th annual report submitted to President Bidya Devi Bhandari. CIAA Chief Deep Basnyat had presented the annual report to the president amid a function organised here today. As many as 7,876 complaints against corruption in public agencies had been carried forward from the fiscal 2015/16. Sector-wise distribution of complaints registered at the CIAA shows that the highest number of complaints (about 20.30 per cent) were related to the education sector. There were 15.54 per cent complaints related to the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development, 6.85 per cent related to the Ministry of Land Reform and Management, 4.60 per cent related to health service, 4.57 per cent related to the Ministry of Home Affairs and 3.87 per cent related to the Ministry of Forests and Soil Conservation. Of the 19,580 complaints, 7,065 have been kept pending after preliminary investigation while further investigation will be conducted into 306 complaints. The rest of the complaints have been resolved. Similarly, 4,490 complaints were forwarded to the concerned agencies for necessary action. The CIAA received court verdict on 160 charge-sheets it filed. The Special Court issued verdict on 73.13 per cent cases according to its claim fully or partially. As many as 54 charge-sheets filed in the court were related to bribery, 40 fake academic credentials, 18 loss or damage to public property, 11 disproportionate property, four revenue leakage and six miscellaneous complaints, read a press release issued by the anti-corruption body. KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Thursday submitted its annual report of fiscal year 2073/074 BS to President Bidya Devi Bhandari at the latter's office.

CIAA chief Deep Basnyat submitted the report to the President Bhandari amid a programme held at the Sheetal Niwas, in accordance to the Article 294 (1) of the Constitution of Nepal, President Office informed.
