Kathmandu, December 22 Kathmandu Metropolitan City is all set to provide free Wi-Fi service for visitors in all its 32 Ward offices. “Infrastructures necessary for free internet connectivity have already been set up. We are testing the equipment before we launch the service,” said Ram Prasad Sapkota, chief at Information Technology Section, Kathmandu Metropolitan City. According to KMC, as many as 40 people can use free Wi-Fi simultaneously without facing any connectivity problem. It said additional equipment for the service would arrive within 15 days. The free Wi-Fi service is expected to be launched in the Ward offices immediately. “We don’t want people to return without completing their work because of the lack of internet connectivity. This is why we have come up with the plan,” Sapkota added. Along with the Ward offices, KMC is also planning to provide free Wi-Fi services in four historical places and two parks — Bouddha, Pashupatinath temple premises, Swoyambhunath stupa, Hanuman Dhoka, Balaju Park and Shankha Park. “Currently, we are studying the places and technology needed to provide free Wi-Fi service in these areas,” added Sapkota. KMC said once the service was launched, service seekers could easily upload pictures and documents,” said Sapkota.  Currently, KMC is providing free Wi-Fi service in Ratna Park.
