Curfew clamped in Kalikot: dozens injured including one policeman

KALIKOT: The situation has turned tensed in Kalikot after police used force against the civil society leaders staging a sit-in in front of the District Administration Office, Kalikot here on Saturday to protest the death of a Myadi (temporary) police recruit, Bibek Aidi.

Aidi had died during a clash between the police and the temporary police personnel on Friday.

More than 20 locals and one policeman have been injured in a clash that ensued after police used force against the civil society members and the local people.

The District Administration Office has clamped a curfew in the district headquarters, Manma, until further notice.

Representatives from the victim's side have demanded that the late Aidi be declared a martyr, his family be compensated properly and the dispute over the salary to the temporary police personnel be investigated into.
Police said that they had to use tear gas shells in self-defense to bring the situation under control after the locals pelted stones at them.
Aidi of Shanni Triveni Rural Municipality-4 had died in police firing in a protest organised by the temporary police personnel on Friday.
