Kathmandu, January 6 Pradeep Kumar Shrestha won the 11th edition title of the Surya Nepal Gokarna Monthly Medal here at the Gokarna Golf Club today. Played under strokeplay full handicap format, the 13-handicap amateur golfer Shrestha played a round of four-under 68 nett to register one-stroke victory over Babu Sherpa, who plays with 11-handicap allowance. Rabindra Tiwari came third with the score of one-under 71. Prithvi Malla bagged the gross section trophy with the score of five-over 77, while Mayank Dahal won the junior category title on count back after he was tied on three-over 75 with Sam Doublard. In all, 27 golfers participated in the event, organised by Gokarna Golf Club under the sponsorship of Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd. Senior member of Gokarna Golf Club Min Bahadur Raut handed over the prizes to the winners. Going into next month’s 12th and final round of the tournament, Rabindra Tiwari leads the nett category table with 420 points, while Prithvi Malla is second with 320 points. Devendra Bajgai 305 is third with 305 points, while Gopal Chitrakar is fourth with 270 and Babu Sherpa is fifth with 240 points. With the day’s victory, Pradeep Kumar Shrestha accumulated 215 points and shared the sixth position with Pavitra Kumar Karki. Prabhakar Adhikari (180), Joseph Nathan (160), and Suhrid Ghimire (155) are the others golfers in top 10. In gross category, Prithvi Malla opened up a huge lead after winning the title today. He is at the top with 800 points, while Gopal Chitrakar is a distant second with 405 points. Wangchen Dhondup is third with 360 points, followed by Babu Sherpa (240) and Rabindra Tiwari (230). Likewise, Sam Doublard lead the junior section standing with 695 points, while Mayank Dahal is second with 600 and Arnav Shah third with 565 points. Top 40 scorers in nett category after 10 monthly medal rounds, 20 in gross and six in junior are in fray for the club championship titles which will be decided after the final event in February.
