Over Rs 5.62 billion spent on polls

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission said on Sunday that over Rs 5.62 billion of the allocated Rs 10 billion was spent on provincial and parliamentary elections till January 5. Provincial and parliamentary elections were held on November 26 and December 7. Of the allocated sum, the poll panel transferred Rs 300 million to capital expenditure, according to a press release issued by EC Spokesperson Navaraj Dhakal. He said over Rs 4.86 billion was sent to the EC’s offices in 77 districts. The EC’s central office spent over Rs 760 million. The EC stated that the remaining Rs 4.7 billion would be used for holding the National Assembly and the presidential polls.
